How SEOAST Calculates Your Score

The published formula SEOAST uses to score pages, including weights, thresholds, and the indexability caps that hold scores down.

The formula

The score is the weighted percentage of checks that pass. Each check has a published weight. A check that passes contributes its weight to the numerator. A check that fails contributes zero. The denominator is the sum of weights for checks that were measurable.

score = (sum of passing check weights / sum of measurable check weights) × 100

Checks that are not measurable drop out of both the numerator and the denominator. For example, a page with no images is not scored on image alt text. That check is reported as "not measurable" and does not affect the result.

Check weights

Every check has a weight that reflects its importance. The weights total 198 when every check is measurable. What matters is the ratio: a weight-10 check is twice as important as a weight-5 check.

The full list of checks and their weights is published on the homepage checks section. Those weights are imported from the live engine, so the page cannot disagree with what an audit returns.

Indexability caps

Four failures hold the score down regardless of how well everything else scores: a non-200 HTTP status, a noindex in the robots meta tag, a noindex in the X-Robots-Tag header, or a robots.txt rule blocking the URL. Each one caps the result.

The cap exists because a page that cannot be indexed does not get a good score, even if its tags are perfect. The uncapped score is shown alongside the capped one, so a report can say "82 on the page itself, held at 35 because the page is noindex."

Score bands

Green: 80–100

The fundamentals are in place. Remaining findings are refinements.

Yellow: 55–79

Working, but leaving measurable value on the table.

Red: 0–54

Something structural is wrong. Start at the top of the fail list.

Why the score is reproducible

The same page audited twice returns the same score, because the formula, thresholds and weights are fixed. There is no per-report judgment call. This makes the number comparable across runs and across pages.

The score is not a prediction of traffic or rankings. It is a percentage: what portion of what could be measured passes. That is all it claims to be.

Section scores

Each report breaks the overall score into six sections: indexability, search appearance, content, machine readability, AI-search readiness, and business trust. Each section score is calculated the same way as the overall score, using only the checks in that section.

A low section score tells you where to focus. If indexability scores 40 and everything else is above 80, fix the indexability problems first.
